Claire Green, 17, and Toby Butler, 15, are the two Tasmanian referees officiating at this week’s Kanga Cup tournament in Canberra.

The tournament will give them an opportunity to officiate at an international youth tournament.

The referees for the Kanga Cup come from all over Australia and overseas.

A team of referee coaches and coordinators are working with the referees at the tournament under a structured program developed by the Kanga Cup Referee Technical Director in line with the FFA Level 3 curriculum.

The Kanga Cup Referee Youth Academy will enable the two Tasmanians and the other participating referees to receive intensive coaching and mentoring.

The focus is on developing them in a tournament environment.

It has the support of FFA and the official curriculum uses resources from the FFA Level 3 and Level 4 courses.

Green and Butler have already been assistant referees for NPL Tasmania games and this experience will serve them in good stead upon their return.

South Hobart have an under-14 team competing at the Kanga Cup tournament.
