Tasmanian footballers are starting to break through into the A-League, and one is even playing overseas.

Jeremy Walker (Perth Glory), Nathaniel Atkinson (Melbourne City) and Josh Hope (Melbourne Victory) featured in A-League squads this weekend.

Hobart-born Jerrad Tyson, a 28-year-old goalkeeper, is in the Western Sydney Wanderers squad, but hasn’t had a look-in this season.

North-West Coast youngster, Jesse Curran, the former TIS player, plays for Dundee in the Scottish Premier League.

Former South Hobart player Andy Brennan, who played a few A-League games for Newcastle Jets before moving to Bentleigh Greens in the Victorian NPL, is currently in the United States.

There are plenty of young Tasmanians, both men and women, active in various NPL leagues interstate.

There are also some players who came to Tasmania and played here and developed their football careers before leaving.

I guess that what the following list shows is that Tasmania’s footprint on the national football scene is growing larger.

Here is the list, which doesn’t include the players already mentioned above. If readers know of any others, please leave a comment with this story.

Jordan Templin (Bulleen Lions, NPL Victoria, formerly South Hobart), Eli Luttmer (Bulleen Lions, NPL Victoria, formerly Tasmanian Institute of Sport and Taroona), William Abbott (Bulleen Lions, NPL Victoria, formerly TIS and Kingborough Lions United), Gianluca Pizzirani (Kingston City, NPL Victoria, formerly with NTC and Devonport City), Nathan Cook (Green Gully, NPL Victoria, formerly with Hobart Zebras), Pasquale Gioffre (Oakleigh Cannons, NPL Victoria, formerly with Olympia Warriors), Kostas Kanakaris (Heidelberg United, NPL Victoria, formerly with South Hobart), Tyler Fischer (Avondale FC, NPL Victoria, formerly with Devonport City), Yitay Towns (Avondale FC, NPL Victoria, formerly with Northern Rangers), Caleb Ludlow (Box Hill United, NPL 2 West Victoria, formerly with South Hobart), Cameron Williams (Werribee City, NPL 2 West Victoria, formerly with South Hobart), Luke Eyles (Dandenong City, NPL 2 West Victoria, formerly with NTC and Olympia Warriors), Tristan Prendergast (Blacktown City, NPL NSW, formerly with NTC), Ryan Norval (NPL NSW, formerly with Hobart Zebras), Majok Piok (NPL Queensland, formerly with Kingborough Lions), Nikolas Giantsopoulos (NPL NNSW, formerly with Devonport Strikers), Louisa Marmion (Souths United, NPL Women Queensland, formerly with NTC), Harkana Dixon (Eastern Suburbs, NPL Women Queensland, formerly with Clarence United), Georgia Foote (Eastern Suburbs, NPL Women Queensland, formerly with Ulverstone), Jesse Williams (Belconnen United, NPL Women ACT, formerly with TIS/NTC), Aimee Medwin (South Melbourne, NPL Women, Victoria, formerly with NTC, Olympia Warriors), Olivia Edwards (FC Bulleen Lions, NPL Women Victoria, formerly TIS/NTC), Ellie Gavalas (Heidelberg United, NPL Women Victoria, formerly TIS/NTC, Olympia Warriors).

Quoting A-non:
Imagine if they all played in tassie :)

Be good but there's no stand outs in the listed woman. Most moved for study and work. If the others were to make the big time it would of happened by now.

Awesome article Watler, great to see some Tassie talent making us proud. Nathaniel Atkinson on Saturday night against Melbourne Victory was fantastic played at right back not his normal position he had Leroy George in his back pocket. Also got 1 point in Alex Tobin medal. Just one correction with above players Tyler Fischer has signed for Preston Lions. No official word that Jack Gates has signed for Brisbane Strikers.

#1 Anon, Alex has yet to even appear on the bench despite being in their A-League squad list. I don't know what's going on. The youth keeper is always on the bench.
