Olympia’s new coach, Ken Weston, is looking forward to tonight’s PS4 NPL Tasmania game against Eastern Shore rivals Clarence United at Warrior Park at 8pm.

“We never fear anyone and we never underestimate anyone,” Weston said today.

“I don’t treat any game differently to any other game in terms of my preparation.

“That’s regardless of whether we’re playing Clarence, South Hobart, Zebras or South Melbourne.”

Weston has spent the week assessing the teams at Olympia, from the seniors through to the Challenge league and women’s sides.

He loves being out on the pitch with players and helping them to improve.

“My first week in the job has been fantastic.

“I’ve been out on the pitch every night watching the juniors and I put on a session last night for the under-15 girls.

“It’s exactly why I joined the club because my whole passion and drive is on the pitch, so it’s been great assessing everything.

“We can improve everywhere and everything, in terms of the mentality of the group, in terms of fitness levels of the group, in terms of structure, in terms of working to my principles, different strategies.

“There’s so much that can be improved and that’s what’s exciting about it and that’s why I wanted this challenge.

“Initially, I want the group to realise they have to set the bar higher.”

Clarence coach Alan Jablonski said his team would not be at full strength.

He said his team had been training well but not reproducing that form in games.

He said Clarence had been conceding a lot of goals and failing to score.

“If you compare us with semi-pro clubs like Olympia and Zebras, we can’t compete with getting in players like they can,” Jablonski said.

“We can compete in terms of being a club families like to take their kids to.

“We treat everyone the same and the women’s side like the men’s side. We spend the same about of money on both sides, and that’s the cub we are.”

“We’re in the competition to win games of football and whatever team we play against we’ll give it our best effort.”

Captain Grant Malcolm, Andrew Robb and Adam Hedge are unavailable for tonight’s game, which means some reserve-team players will get a call-up.

Clarence’s marquee import, Odaine Demar is still out after being injured less than two games into the league season.

He now required a minor operation and is unlikely to be fit to play in the near future.

“The reserve players who will be called up are keen and looking forward to it and they deserve the opportunity,” Jablonski said.

“They’ll be keen to do well and keep their spots.”

An amazing press conference. One has to ask why do the players even bother if this is the attitude of the club and head coach. Clarance United are there to make up the numbers with no drive to succeed. Bring back the mighty Knights and kick out this social family club. Family clubs do not belong in the NPL.

Sporting clubs are built around families with a common interest .Committees are almost always made up of players families or ex players.
They are built around hard work and usually a good culture to attract players. Only the minority have some cash to through around and it doesn't always bring success

#10 His honesty is good and Clarence may well believe and maybe quite rightly true that they are just a family social club and can never compete with the Olympia's of the world. However I doubt whether the players want to hear or read this before a game from the head coaches mouth.

And there it is the same whinging comments from a Knights supporter.Your excluded until 2019 at the earliest, you embarrassment to your club.

Must agree with you the best thing is for knights supporters to keep quiet and Learn from the clubs mistakes that have now been rectified.

Clarence have never had a 'money-daddy' & are unlikely to in the near future. Jabba should grow a set of balls & find away to be competitive. All I hear are lame-assed excuses, mostly about the players. What about looking at the coach & his lack of footballing acumen & positive approach to competing in the NPL. Nobody gives you anything in the top flight & if you are not good enough, no amount of excuses can make up for your lack of fighting spirit or ability. Randy Dandall was good, O'Neill was good, Bremner was good, Jablonski was not

I actually really like Jabbas honesty.
All he is stating is that Clarence are not fortunate enough to have a financial backer like Olympia or Zebs but they will do the best they can.
This is just a fact at this time.
Watching his press conference you can see he is hurting and really loves his club. Keep working hard Jabba and don't listen to the people posting with agendas.

Is that a rule you have lived by your whole 10 days at Warrior Park Kenny ?

The first improvement Kenny can make is to stop dribbling out clichés.

Grow up its a sporting term not a life term.
What are you trying to say that Kenny has no morals try asking all the kids he has coached and nurtured in his past Olympia days.
Your attack on Kenny is pathetic you are just another Olympia hater.
Kenny is a great bloke who has more moaral than you and has done something for football unlike you.
