Kenny Weston has resigned as Olympia Warriors coach after less than a year in charge.

He was appointed after seven games of the 2017 NPL Tasmania season following the dismissal of Ian Shaw.

Shaw had been signed from Kingborough Lions United and Olympia were top of the table when he was axed by Olympia president George Mamacas.

Shaw is now in Queensland and is believed to be in negotiations with Olympia’s Czech import striker, Jakub Sklenar.

Sklenar is also a target of league champions South Hobart.

To add to Olympia’s woes, goalkeeper Jakob Cole is reported to have returned to Canberra.

Olympia president George Mamacas issued the following statement today:

“On Monday morning I had to reluctantly accept Ken Weston's Resignation.

“Ken and his family have made the decision to go back to his wife's home state being Western Australia.

“The Olympia FC Board wish Ken and his family all the best for their future.

“We have already made contact with a number of prospective candidates for the position of head coach of Olympia FC. We are hoping to announce an appointment within the next 3 weeks.

“Olympia FC remains committed to winning at the senior level and will challenge for all the major trophies include the 2018 NPL title.

“This will require a full time professional coach and a committed playing squad. I have no doubts that our NPL and challenge squad are committed to our club and will serve for 2018”

Surely a coach isn't evaluated on one result?

Over the course of the season Olympia did reasonably well. They won the NPL Cup and came second (I think) in the NPL home and away season.

Weston performed reasonably well over the entire season.

One would think that mate! ..However, Mamacas axed Shaw after the first game of the season, even though by the time Kenny was ready to take over they were on top of the table (end of round 1).

#20 Libero. You may be happy.George definitely was not happy. Why would you be happy when you are on top when you sack the coach and finish second by 15 points and get smashed twice by the top team by six and seven goals respectively within a month. Oh and get spanked by Apia as well.If you are happy with that then you have low expectations after what the club had spent on player and coaches payments.Great investment eh ?

I think most coaches, clubs, fans and committees would be happy with a second placing in the home and away season and winning the state Cup comp.

Not a bad return for Kenny Weston and Olympia.
