Hobart Zebras stayed top of the PS4 NPL standings with this comfortable 4-0 win over second-last Launceston City at KGV Park on Saturday.

Luke Huigsloot netted a hat-trick, while fly-in from Melbourne, Mathew Sanders, grabbed the other goal.

Launceston City adopted a very physical approach and some tackles led to heated confrontations. Huigsloot, twice, and Adam McKeown were fortunate to emerge unscathed after two particularly robust and foul challenges that saw Mr Phillips brandish the yellow card to two City players.

The visitors squandered an early chance but from then on it was largely all Zebras. Their finishing was not clinical, however, and it wasn’t until 8 minutes before the break that the home side took the lead. Chris Downes sent a corner over from the left and Huigsloot rose above the crowd to nod the ball home.

Huigsloot made it 2-0 five minutes after the resumption when he controlled a high ball from the left by McKeown and, from just outside the box, skilfully lobbed the ball over keeper David Smith and just under the bar.

Sanders added Zebras’ third on the hour, latching onto a free-kick from the half-way line on the left by Nicholas Groenewold and side-footing the ball past Smith.

Huigsloot completed his hat-trick and the scoring in the 68th minute. Downes and Hey combined for a short corner on the right and when Downes crossed towards the far post, Groenewold headed the ball back into the middle for Huigsloot to nod home.
