After last weekend’s 4-2 loss to Northern Rangers, I felt that bottom-side Clarence United were still within reach of safety.

I now think that their last chance of avoiding the wooden spoon went out the window with this 3-2 loss away to Kingborough Lions United on Saturday night.

Clarence led 2-1 at the break, but could not maintain their lead. It was a case of so near, yet so far.

They had two players sent off late in the game - Adam Hedge and Sam Reibel - and conceded a penalty in stoppage time, which ultimately sank them.

Clarence team sheet 30 June 2018 v Kingborough - Copy

Clarence’s team sheet was handwritten on a blank sheet of paper, which says something about their preparation. They will probably incur a fine for this administrative failing.

They were on the back foot from the start yet still took the lead through Hur Ali Ercan on the quarter-hour after a neat bit of skill.

The busy and speedy Phil Kantzos headed the equaliser for the Lions 6 minutes before the interval, but Cody Snell restored Clarence’s lead on the stroke of half-time when he converted a right-wing cross from Ibrahim Soukary.

Zammit and Sanchez

Clarence were under pressure from the beginning of the second half but looked like surviving as the match drew to an end.

They were dealt a huge blow when leading 2-1 with just 3 minutes of regulation time left when centre-back Adam Hedge was sent off in the 87th minute after collecting a second yellow card.

Sam Reibel moved to centre-back to partner Paul Palmer, but keeper Jason Voss, who had made three excellent saves during the match, blotted his copybook when he allowed the ball, after a Joel Schuth low shot from a seemingly impossible angle on the left, to squirm under his body and over the line to make it 2-2 in the 88th minute.

A point still seemed a possibility, but deep into stoppage time, Reibel conceded a penalty by tripping substitute James Hall and was shown a second yellow card and dismissed.

Danny Cowen netted from the spot-kick with virtually the last kick of the game to give the Lions all three points.

This game was Clarence’s chance to salvage their season. I’d say it’s all over now.

I know you are a Clarence supporter through and through but I think its better you say nothing or just admit the mistake than give people the ammo to have a go at you.
You have to admit it not professional to have a team sheet like that.

Incorrect again. Absolutely it's not professional. Reminds me of when we used to write lunch orders on paper bags in infant school.
Your comment surprises me as at no point have I said anything about it. My only comment was about some ordinary spelling.

#11 Sad.What are you on about? The reference to the team sheet was highlighting the incompetence of a group of people who obviously believe that is acceptable.WHat happens on the field of play is for the referee to deal with . And #14 . Ask the ref why he booked Adam Hedge. Walter was not the referee.
