The battle to avoid the wooden spoon is the focus of attention in this weekend’s Round 19 of the PS4 NPL Tasmania competition.

Second-last Kingborough Lions United host bottom-side Clarence United at Lightwood Park on Saturday at 2pm, with only 2 points separating the sides.

If Clarence win, Kingborough go bottom and it could be curtains for the Lions.

The sides drew at Lightwood in a previous meeting, while Clarence won 3-0 at home at Wentworth Park, so it looks as if the Lions have a mountain to climb to avoid defeat in this one.

New champions South Hobart travel to Valley Road on Saturday to face old champions Devonport City at 2pm.

The southerners will be without Nick Morton, who is being rested, and theyw ill be keen to show they are worthy champions.

Devonport, on the other hand, will want to show they still have some of the qualities they had last season when they won the title, so a close game is on the cards.

Devonport are currently third on goal-difference and they are involved in a struggle with second-placed Olympia Warriors for that second spot.

The Warriors entertain fifth-placed Northern Rangers at Warrior Park at 2.30pm on Sunday and will be keen to consolidate second spot by winning, especially if Devonport manage to topple South Hobart.

Olympia came back to earth with a thud on Tuesday night when they lost 5-0 to APIA Leichhardt in the FFA Cup and they will be keen to show they can still cut the mustard in the top-flight Tasmanian competition.

Jakub Sklenar played the full 90 minutes against APIA, which could indicate his ankle injury has healed. If it has, he should take the field against Rangers.

Nick Mearns and Hugh Undy played against APIA and may be selected to face Rangers.

Rangers are just a point ahead of sixth-ranked Launceston City and will be keen to keep their noses in front and they could find Olympia are vulnerable after their FFA Cup loss.

Launceston City host fourth-placed Hobart Zebras at Buckby Landrover Park at 4.30pm on Saturday.

City’s morale may be slightly better than that of Zebras and, with home-ground advantage, the Launceston Outfit could just snatch a victory.

Walter, Whats going on with the womens super league & womens southern championship league? why have Olympia Warriors been deducted 10 points in both leagues?

Just checked too. Is this an error or a penalty of some sort?

Olympia women reserves and seniors have both been deducted 10 points each. All to do with wanting to postpone a few weeks ago.

Hmm the same round that taroona with two fft employees were allowed to postopone their game? Don't like olympia, they have clearly broken the rules but it seems they have not been the only one..

Read the article on slice of cheese. You might learn something.

Interesting. I never thought FFT would have had the guts to do this.

Come on kingborough you can win and let the rightful team take the wooden spoon you're a way better club than Clarence.

If you honestly don't think boro are the worst team in the league you obviously have no soccer brain
