A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

Southern Premier League leaders University face a stern test when they take on fourth-placed and reigning champions Beachside at Sandown Park at 2.30pm today.

University are unbeaten and lead the standings by 5 points, but this match should test their credentials.

There are some crucial games in Round 6 of the Victory League this weekend at both ends of the table.

Leaders South Hobart visit Warrior Park on Saturday at 7pm to take on third-placed Olympia Warriors and the winner can possibly open up a clear lead at the top, while at the foot of the ladder, Glenorchy Knights must win away to third-last Launceston City at 4.30pm on Saturday at Mitsubishi Park to get their season underway.

Southern Tasmania’s Beachside Under-15s are heading off to the Manchester United Premier Cup Pacific Finals in Sydney later this week to take on other Under-15 teams from across the Pacific region.

The tournament kicks off on 9 May and will run until 11 May at Blacktown Football Park in Western Sydney.

Four Tasmanian referees have been added to the 2014 Football Federation Australia (FFA) Referee National Talent Pool (NTP).

Lauren Hargrave, Brenton Kopra, Jimmy Hortle and Sarah Wikeley have all been identified as talented officials from within Tasmania and have been added to the national pool.
