Round 15 of the Victory League kicks off at Mitsubishi Park in Launceston tonight [Friday] when bottom-side Launceston City host fourth-placed Northern Rangers at 7pm.

Rangers have already won the previous two meetings of this Launceston Mitsubishi and Launceston Mazda derby, but the John McKenna Medal will be awarded tonight to the best player over the three matches.

Soccer in Tasmania used to be an egalitarian sport open to all, with thousands of participants.

Southern Premier League leaders University suffered their first league defeat of the season when they went down 3-2 away to fourth-placed Taroona on Saturday.

The Students led 2-0 after just 15 minutes through goals by Luke Huigsloot and Alexis Bull, but they were pegged back by a determined home side, who played the first 20 minutes of the game with just 10 men due to the late arrival of Hugh Foley.

South Hobart maintained their 6-point lead at the top of the Victory League with a resounding 8-0 away win over bottom-side Launceston City at Mitsubishi Park on Saturday.

Brayden Mann netted four goals and Andy Brennan hit a hat-trick, while Hugh Undy scored the remaining goal.
