A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

Southern Premier League leaders University face a stiff challenge from third-placed Taroona away at Kelvedon Park at 2.30pm today.

Reigning champions Beachside should stay on a winning tack by beating bottom-side New Town Eagles away at Clare Street at 2.30pm today, and second-ranked Clarence United should win at home against Nelson Eastern Suburbs at 6pm today at Wentworth Park.

South Hobart can regain top spot on the Victory League table if they beat fifth-ranked Kingborough Lions United away at Lightwood Park at 2pm today.

And, if Olympia Warriors defeat Launceston City at 6pm today at Warrior Park, there will be four teams on 9 points at the top of the table, separated only by goal-difference.

Fourth-placed Tilford Zebras can draw level on 9 points with Victory League leaders Northern Ranger by winning their encounter, which kicks off at 3pm tomorrow, at KGV Park. 

The Zebras’ morale will have improved after their 1-0 win over traditional rivals Olympia Warriors last Saturday, while Rangers will feel on top of the world following their 3-1 away triumph last Sunday against reigning champions South Hobart.

University are the clear leaders in the Southern Premier League competition after beating Clarence United 3-1 at Olinda Grove on Saturday.

Clarence are second on 6 points and level with Taroona, who downed New Town Eagles 5-3 away at Clare Street.

Northern Rangers caused a shock in the Victory League on Sunday with a 3-1 away win over reigning champions and league leaders South Hobart at South Hobart Oval.

In fact, all four games in Round 3 ended in victories for the away teams.
