The Tasmanians trained at Churchill Park in Launceston on the weekend and will train again at KGV Park on Thursday in a session taken by Tasmania’s new technical director Spencer Prior.

The northern and southern contingents will also train separately, in Launceston and Hobart, tomorrow night.

The Tasmanian co-coaches are Michael Foote (Ulverstone) and Brent McKay (Taroona).

“We had a good intense session today [Sunday] and have put together a good young squad,” said Michael Foote.

“I'm looking forward to the game against an opposition that is unknown to us, but I believe we will be competitive and should provide a good account of ourselves.”

Brent McKay said:  "It was another good effort today and great for the Southern girls to travel up to the North who have to travel a lot just to play.

“I was happy with the intensity today and it's starting to come together, particularly integrating the players from both ends of the state.

“I'm excited about the game and the opportunity it presents to both the girls and women's football in Tasmania.

“I hope everyone gets along to the game."

The squad includes five players from the North and 11 from the South.

The Tasmanian squad of 16 is:

Lisa Bremner (Taroona). Rani Cavarretta (Olympia), Georgia Foote (Ulverstone), Lucy Foote (Ulverstone), Ellie Gavalas (NTC), Isabella Gee (NTC), Stacie Hutchinson (NTC), Hanna Manuela (Taroona), Louisa Marmion (NTC), Innocent Michael (NTC), Emma Norton (UTAS), Mady O’Brien (Olympia), Caitlin Storay (Launceston City), Amelia Van Der Niet (Clarence), Kiara Walsh (Launceston City), Jessie Williams (NTC).  [Train-on: Paige Ayton (NTC)].

The Victorian WPL All-Stars provisional squad is: Aneta Komijat (Altona City) Sky Jensen (Altona City) Christine Pfeiffer (Ashburton Women) Ingrid Philippe (Ashburton Women) Line Johansen (Box Hill United) Stacey Papadopoulos (Box Hill United) Padika Dade (Box Hill United) Alyssa Blewonski (Bulleen Lions) Federica Frew (Bulleen Lions) Claudia Fruscalzo (Bundoora United) Melissa Missalidis (Bundoora United) Tyla-Jay Vlajnic (Bundoora United) Emily Thomas (Cairnlea) Tijen Hussein (Cairnlea) Alex Gummer (Casey Comets) Brittany Dudley-Smith (Casey Comets) Belinda Pannella (Heidelberg United) Erin Brennan (Heidelberg United) Leigh Gray (Heidelberg United) Diana Piculovski (Preston Lions) Elizabeth Eyar (Preston Lions) Christie Parton (Sandringham) Sienna Fogarty (Sandringham) Steph Tanti (Sandringham) Alex Cheal (South Melbourne Women) Morany Chek (South Melbourne Women) Natalie Martineau (South Melbourne Women)

I know she didn't play this season but I would have thought Alex Mcneill would have been good enough to be in this squad if she was interested, thoughts?

I don't think that would have been fair to those who did play this year. I agree that she is a very good player, but it's a Tasmanian Women's Premier League All-Stars team, and unfortunately she wasn't involved in the WPL so I don't think it would have been right for her to be involved. Would love to see her back next year though!

There is of course many good players, pity people have to miss out but at least name people that have performed in the competition this year. Naming individuals like this identifies them for unwarranted criticism not (hopefully) of their own making.

Olympia wins the Women's Premier League and gets 2 players in. NTC 6 + 1 train on, Taroona ends up 3rd and gets 2 in come on.

By my count it's four from the north & 12 from the south. Not five & 11 as quoted in the press release.

Get over it!!
