Devonport City won the Mies Family Cup for the second year in a row on Saturday at Launceston’s Mitsubishi Park.
Launceston United performed creditably and finished as the runners-up in the tournament, which was hosted by Launceston City.
The full results were:
Launceston City 0-2 Launceston United
Devonport City 1-0 Northern Rangers
Launceston United 1-0 Northern Rangers
Devonport City 2-0 Launceston City
Launceston Coty 1-4 Northern Rangers
Devonport City 3-0 Launceston United
Devonport City’s Ben Foote was voted the most valuable player of the tournament.
He received his trophy from Launceston City life members Peter and Christine Mies, who also presented the cup named in their honour to Devonport City.
“Each club took the opportunity to field youthful squads and there were some established senior players missing,” said Launceston City spokesman, Tony Rossi.
“Devonport named a strong squad, with a blend of youth, complemented by regular senior players such as their off-season recruits Brayden Mann and the Foote brothers from Ulverstone, and Bobby and Casey Eaves from Somerset.
“They again proved too strong and are showing strong pre-season form, which augurs well for them as the first round of the Victory League fast approaches.
“NPL club Launceston United capped a fine tournament by finishing runners up to Devonport.
“All clubs enjoyed the opportunity to have a run early on in the season.”
