Who Is Walter Pless?


A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

1.  The North-West Summer Cup starts tomorrow [Saturday] with a double-header at Montello in Burnie.

At 12.30pm, Somerset takes on Devonport City, while at 2.30pm, Burnie United host Ulverstone.

It will be interesting to see if the Victory League giants from the North-West Coast, Devonport City, can win this competition against their Northern Premier League opponents.

Olympia Warriors should make sure of qualifying for the Summer Cup semi-finals from Pool A when they meet Nelson Eastern Suburbs at Warrior Park on Saturday at 7pm.

Olympia top Pool A on goal-difference from Southern FC, who meet bottom-side Glenorchy Knights at Warrior park on Sunday at 3pm.
