Who Is Walter Pless?


A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

I recently attended a training session of Southern Premier League club University at Olinda Grove and took the opportunity to speak to club chairman, Miles Barnard.

University are currently 10th in the 12-team Southern Premier League competition.

Socceroos goalkeeping coach Tony Franken will be in Tasmania for a week as from next Saturday.

He will be here to conduct a Football Federation Australia Goalkeeping Level 2 Licence course beginning on Monday and held at the Tasmania Police Academy at Rokeby and at the Rokeby High School.

Victory League club Tilford Zebras have dismissed senior coach Stephen Pitchford following yesterday’s 4-4 draw with Northern Rangers.

Zebras led 4-0 at half-time at the NTCA Ground in Launceston before conceding four goals after the break.
