Launceston City was the only one of four northern clubs in action to progress to the first-round proper of the Milan Lakoseljac Memorial Trophy State-wide knock-out competition from Monday’s preliminary round of eight matches.

City won 3-2 away against southern League One outfit Metro at North Chigwell.

Derwent United made an inauspicious start to their 2012 season when they lost 12-0 away to Olympia Warriors despite having six of their eight Asian imports on view.

Kingborough Lions United 3 (T Pearce 2, M Farquhar) beat Burnie United 0

Andy Brennan scored four goals as South Hobart beat Ulverstone 5-0 in Sunday’s Steve Hudson Cup final to claim the trophy for a fifth year in succession.

Brennan gave South a 1-0 lead at the break but it wasn’t until late in the match that Hugh Ludford made it 2-0 with a long-range shot.
