Who Is Walter Pless?


A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

Glenorchy Knights 2 (Dawes 42, Marney 65) lost to New Town Eagles 3 (McKeown 36, 74, Whitehall 86)

Devonport City suffered a blow on the eve of their North-West Coast derby against arch rivals Ulverstone at Valley Road, scheduled for 2.30pm tomorrow, with the announcement that central defender Luke Beardwood was quitting the game.

Beardwood’s work commitments have changed and he is unable to commit fully to training and playing.

Saturday’s Southern Premier League match between University and Clarence United at 2.30pm at Olinda Grove is more than just for three points.

The winner will also received the Andrew Hoppitt Memorial Trophy, named in honour of the late University goalkeeper who died in a parachuting accident in Victoria in October 2005 at the age of 21.
