Second-placed Derwent United will have their latest South Korean signing, Song Min Shin, on view against League One leaders Beachside at Sandown Park at 2.30pm tomorrow.

A win for Derwent will put them on top and a point in front of Beachside.

Second-placed Northern Rangers should take over at the top of the Forestry Tasmania Northern Premier League tomorrow when they meet  sixth-placed Somerset away at Cardigan Street.

Ulverstone, the current leaders, have the bye and must sit back and watch their lead slip away.

Olympia Warriors are likely to be without key players Janko Begovic and Josh Fielding for tonight’s Forestry Tasmania Southern Premier League game against Glenorchy Knights at 8pm at Warrior Park.

The funeral of Begovic’s one-year-old son, Kobi, will be held today and Janko and close friend Fielding will probably be absentees from the match.

Olympia had requested a postponement of the fixture, but it is believed the two teams were unable to come to an agreement.

Dr Ian Syson, the visiting Victorian academic with a passion for the world game, tells me that tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of North versus South games in Tasmania.

He has uncovered a reference to the event and you can read it on Ian’s blog site:

Nelson Eastern Suburbs’ women’s side will be wearing a new pink strip for their games next Sunday.

It’s all part of the club’s fund-raising day for the National Breast Cancer Foundation at North Warrane on Sunday.
