A teacher by profession, but is now in his 38th year as a football writer. Has written for "Soccer Action" (Melbourne), "Australian Soccer Weekly" (Sydney) and "World Soccer" (London), as well as for several Tasmanian newspapers. Currently contributing to "Goal!Weekly" in Melbourne and the Australian magazine "Soccer International". Played for Croatia-Glenorchy, Caledonians, Metro, Rapid and University in Tasmania, as well as in the United States of America. Coached University, Metro and Croatia-Glenorchy.

Olympia Warriors are doing their bit for ill kids.

The club contributed $710 to a local children’s ward after Friday night’s game against Glenorchy Knights.

Last week I referred to the fact that Friday was the 100th anniversary of the first North versus South soccer match in Tasmania, a fact revealed by visiting Victorian academic and football writer Dr Ian Syson.

Ian has provided me with the match report of that first intrastate game published in The Mercury on 24 June 1912.  Read on:
