Adelaide United lost for the first time at home this season when they succumbed 1-0 to reigning champions Brisbane Roar in front of just over 11,000 fans at Hindmarsh Stadium this evening.

Adelaide were coming back from a 6-1 thrashing in their previous outing and, although they showed improvement, they did not really deserve to win this one.

The result leaves Adelaide in second place, 2 points adrift of leaders central Coast Mariners, while Brisbane moved up from second-last to seventh on the ladder.

Brisbane dominated the possession in the opening half, but it was Brisbane that had more chances.

Adelaide might have taken the lead after just three minutes when Michael Theo could not hold Bruce Djite’s powerful left-footed drive, but Theo recovered and pounced on the loose ball before Dario Vidosic or Geronimo Neumann could pounce.

Brisbane were thwarted in the 9th minute when Besart Berisha’s header was superbly saved by Eugene Galekovic.

Galekovic was untroubled with other shots that were directed straight at him.

The only goal came in the 65th minute when Thomas Broich put Mitch Nichols away on the left and he outwitted two defenders before cutting the ball back from the byline on the left for Henrique to slot home.
