There are five North versus South matches and three all-southern games in tomorrow’s [Monday] round-of-16 Milan Lakoseljac Memorial Trophy State-wide competition.

Beachside, Taroona and Hobart United are the only League One sides left in the competition and all three face Premier League opponents.

It’s strange to see New Town Eagles perched on top of the Southern Premier League ladder.

But, that is exactly where they are after they downed Tilford Zebras 4-3 at home at Clare Street on Saturday afternoon and previous leaders South Hobart lost 3-2 away to Clarence United at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Olympia Warriors remain last after they could only draw 2-2 away to University at Olinda Grove.

Football Federation Tasmania has taken special measures to ensure there is no repeat of the trouble that plagued matches between Metro and Hobart United last season when the two sides meet in a League One match at North Chigwell at 2.30pm tomorrow [Saturday].

Sections of the ground will be cordoned off for visiting and home supporters and there will be a police presence.

All four Southern Premier League games are played on Saturday this Easter weekend and every one of them is an important encounter.

The teams at the bottom are going to be in trouble if they don’t win, while the top-four situation should become clearer as a result of some of the games.
