Olympia Warriors president George Mamacas has well and truly set the cat amongst the pigeons by offering incentive payments to Olympia senior players next season.

Mamacas will be providing ‘expense payments’ of $50 per win to all Olympia senior Premier League players named on the team-sheet each week for the entire season.

The payments apply for league and cup games, both home and away.

“The players will not lose their amateur status as the limit is, I think, $100 per game,” Mamacas said.

“Anything above that and you’d be a semi-professional.

“These payments are simply reimbursing players for their expenses.

“The committee and I felt that players deserve to be compensated for their time and effort and this is one way of doing it.

“It may even attract some new players to our club, so we’ll see what happens.”

Mamacas said further details will be announced closer to the start of the 2012 season.
