And, they deserved this victory. They had many more chances than the Zebras, who looked anaemic in attack and fragile in defence. Zebras had two half-chances, once when a tame shot flew straight at goalkeeper Robert Kay, and another when Jake Van Der Mey had to clear off the line. In contrast, Olympia were often dangerous and only excellent saves by Frank Mainella against Chris Kumpulainen and Domhnall Corbett kept Zebras in the match.
Photo: Olympia's Jake Van Der Mey heads home but the goal is disallowed because of a foul on the keeper [PlessPix] Olympia hit the front three minutes before the break when a left-wing cross by substitute Nick Meredith found Corbett with his back to goal. He contorted himself to kick the ball over his head and, with Mainella slightly off his line, the ball dropped under the bar and into the net. Zebras drew level in the 70th minute following an Andrew Telega free-kick from deep on the left. The ball was allowed to bounce in the box and found Ricky Self, who smashed it home.

Lee Mason released Joshua Colosimo down the left and his cross took a bounce before hitting the base of the far post and spinning over the line. Mainella appeared to have it covered, although the presence of Olympia striker Kosta Grillas may have distracted him. Mainella said later that the artificial surface had played a part in the ball hitting the post instead of carrying wide, and also in spinning over the line. Olympia are now in the semi-finals of the competition, but their minds are firmly on the league, where are they 3 points ahead of bottom-side Beachside and with another game against the Zebras scheduled at KGV Park this coming Friday.

They are second and they looked tired. “I thought we played better than usual and we wanted it a bit more. I think we had a few more chances than them.
Photo: The smile on Franco Previdi's face says it all [PlessPix] “I know the second goal a little bit lucky, but, you know, sometimes you need a little bit of luck to win. “I don’t believe Olympia deserves to be second from the bottom on the league ladder, but, unfortunately, we are. “We’ll take one week at a time and I’m very happy.”
Photo: Zebras' Ricky Self gives Olympia's Joshua Colosimo and Lee Mason the slip [PlessPix] Tilford Zebras coach, Romeo Frediani, said: “I think we played some really good passages, but they were tiny little bits. I think we went back to being individuals again. “After a couple of weeks of playing really good football, for some reason we just turned it around to go back to individuals. “I’m pretty shattered. I’m sure the boys are, too.”

Olympic F.C.
Eastern shore's oldest and fastest growing community based Premier League Club
Clarence United FC
the Eastern Shore’s only community based Premier League football club
I am sure they will get together and sort this little miss understandiing out.
What is of shock? was there anything in that article we all didn't know?
He's got to be 45
You heard wrong..
Clarence has had that for a number of years now.
Olympias "brainstrust" obviously couldnt come up with something unique so they stole Clarences web page heading.
Oh wait, they added "oldest and fastest growing" BRILLIANT!!
"the Eastern Shore’s only community based Premier League football club"
It is clear to one and all that the above is just a blatant and deliberate miss-truth. Eastern Shore is home to Nelson Eastern Suburbs and Olympia F C Warriors. Shame on you CUFC.
Nelson aren't, and never will be a Premier League club so I don't know why you included them. Olympia also have had no interest in the Eastern Shore prior to this year, so to try and claim they have had it for years prior to this year is the only false claim from where I sit as a Western Shore neutral viewer!
Do Nelson play in the Premier League??
and as far as Olympia goes, I guess Clarence dont consider them to be community based. Clarence's home is Clarence. Olympias home is Olympia. Maybe if they changed their name to Warrane Warriors, then they would truly be community based. But obviously they are embarrassed by their home and would prefer to stay aligned with a place thousands of km away!!!!
yyiipppppeeeeee
Nelson aren't a Premier League Club.
The inference from CUFC's banner is that Olympia isn't community based.
Given Olympia has twice as many teams as last year (with a genuinely open door) and CUFC has half as many as before (with an increasingly elitist attitude) then Olympia's banner is a factually correct and clever retort.
but nelson aren't in the premier league...and Olympic are fly-by-nighters who have nought to do with the eastern shore, just that mcmacas has bought some land there...
Your a joke mate. Why say that? Completely unnecessary, get a life.
Statewide Cup results in:
Eastern Shore Club results:
Nelson Eastern Suburbs - resting till 2012.
Clarence United F C - resting till 2012
Olympia F.C. Warriors - Semi-final vs ???
bit of a cheapshot
You have hit the nail on the head. Olympia, or should i say george, is always concerning himself with what others are doing. Take care of your own nest Olympia. You havn't won ANYTHING yet.
P.S Statewide Finals Series:
Eastern Shore Clubs involved.......
Whats wrong with that?.. They are happy to be in the semi finals, which was not expected at all, so good one them. I think your just a bit jealous and want to find something to bag Olympia out about, were you hoping to get 25 thumps ups for that stupid comment?
really i have my doubts??
At least Hey was a genuine man. No wonder he didn't get along with the others.
i was hoping for atleast five thumbs up jockstrap
