The tall 19-year-old central defender had a shock initiation to the Southern Premier League when Olympia lost 2-0 to Glenorchy Knights at KGV Park in his first game for his new club.

He has scored two goals in 12 appearances for Olympia and is looking forward to the Cup Final, which is scheduled for KGV Park at 6.30pm on Saturday. “It’ll be a tough match against South Hobart, but I reckon we can give them a good show and I reckon we can snatch a trophy this season,” Van Der Mey said confidently. Van Der Mey comes from Eden on the south coast of New South Wales, where he played in a local under-12 competition. He moved with his family to Mildura and represented Country Victoria in the under-14 age group before being accepted at the Victorian Institute of Sport. He had been at South Melbourne for three years before the move to Olympia in July this year.

He is an exemplary role model and a wonderful advertisement for South Melbourne and, indeed, Victorian football. |

As a goalkeeper it was great opportunity to play with Jake.
Rate him along side Pete Tsarkiris and Daniel Brown as defenders WHO I HAVE PLAYED WITH in Tassie. Their contributions both attacking and defensive are massive.
I havent been fortunate enough to play with the Henry Fagg's, Telega's, Iseli's and alike who i also rate as players.
Please leave Monkey alone.
Concidentally when you are battling for relegation against another social club once again no doubt!
Firstly, i would like to thank those people for their comments. It means a lot to me to know that i am appreciated at olympia and to others in the football community so again thankyou.
Secondly, thankyou Hobart olympia. Everyone at the club from the players, coaching staff, supporters and board made me feel welcome and at home from the moment i came down. I would love nothing more than to play for olympia next year however, for my football career to go forward i need to continuously move to higher levels. Someday i will hopefully return to play or have some part at the fantastic club that olympia is. Anyway, my focus at the moment is giving something back to the club, and that is the trophy on offer this weekend. We have a fantastic squad and im confident we can do over South Hobart!!
Thankyou and i will see you this weekend.
