The following is a media release issued by Football Federation Tasmania:

“Football Federation Tasmania is very supportive of the announcement from Minister for Sport and Recreation, Mr Brian Wightman to work with Football Federation Tasmania,” said Sean Collins, President, Football Federation Tasmania.

“Whilst acknowledging the prospect that a Tasmanian A-League team is some years away, the positive for Football Federation Tasmania is the continuation to engage and support the improvement of the game at a local level”.

Launceston United are the first team through to the next round of the Milan Lakoseljac Memorial Trophy State-wide competition after beating Launceston City 2-1 away at Mitsubishi Park tonight in the preliminary round.

Other than in this year’s Steve Hudson Cup, it was the first competitive win for Launceston United since the 2008 season, when they beat Ulverstone.
