Melbourne Victory 2-0 Perth Glory

Melbourne Victory beat bottom-side Perth Glory 2-0 at AAMI Park in Melbourne yesterday afternoon, but it came at a huge cost.

Matthew Kemp went off with a knee injury after 34 minutes, while Archie Thompson tore a hamstring after scoring the opening goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

And, Carlos Hernandez was replaced by Tommy Pondeljak with 3 minutes remaining after he twisted an ankle.

Victory coach Ernie Merrick will be on tenterhooks as the extent of the injuries to three of his star players is determined this week.

Adriano Pellegrino almost gave the cellar-dwellers the lead in the 19th minute, but his low strike hit the outside of Michael Petkovic

Wellington Phoenix 4-0 Newcastle Jets

_____________________________

Wellington Phoenix beat the Newcastle Jets 4-0 at home at Westpac Stadium in Wellington this afternoon to draw level with their opponents on 25 points.

The Jets stayed in 5th spot on goal-difference, with the Phoenix in 6th place.

The Phoenix suffered an early blow when top scorer Paul Ifill fell awkwardly and damaged his left knee. He was stretchered off in only the 12th minute and replaced by Chris Greenacre. It looked like a serious injury and if the striker requires surgery, he may be out for the season.

Tim Brown put the Phoenix in front in the 18th minute. Marco Rojas played the ball through for Greenacre on the right and his cross was headed home by Tim Brown, who outjumped Taylor Regan at the far post.

It was 2-0 in the 31st minute when Manny Muscat
